Volunteers were expressing confusion and often quitting out of frustration or lack of motivation.

The Solution

What it Looks Like

About the Project

After joining the non-profit as a volunteer I identified an opportunity to increase volunteer retention and ensure they are able to contribute value in a short time.

Firstly, all onboarding was conducted through synchronous meetings which limited the number of volunteers that could be brought on.

Secondly, there wasn't a single source of truth containing all the necessary information for volunteers and volunteers expressed confusion, took weeks to onboard, and often quit out of frustration or a decrease in motivation

Thirdly, as a new non-profit there was no budget to spend on authoring tools or a learning management system so I needed to find a way to house the content on a free platform.

To combat these issues I designed an onboarding that could be housed for free and delivered asynchronously. After the initial launch, I used a survey to evaluate user experience and iterate. The results of this new onboarding were an increase in volunteer satisfaction and completion of volunteer commitment.
